Prof. Rod Snowdon

Rod Snowdon is Professor of Plant Breeding at Justus Liebig University in Giessen, Germany, where he moved in 1993 after studying plant biology and genetics in New Zealand. Prof. Snowdon leads a large research program working on genome analysis, quantitative trait dissection and breeding of major crops with a major focus on winter rapeseed. He has close collaborations with international research partners and with the breeding industry. Besides classical quantitative genetics and molecular breeding, his group implements high-throughput genomics and innovative phenotyping solutions for analysis and dissection of genome structural diversity, investigation of complex trait regulation and prediction of trait performance. A major feature in many studies is the role of dynamic genome restructuring as a driver of genetic diversity for quantitative traits.
